Commissioner De Las Llagas Urges Batch 2019 Graduates to Find Their Marketable Brand
The 8th Commencement Exercises of the North Luzon Philippines State College (NLPSC) happened on May 30, 2019 at the Candon Civic Center, Candon City, Ilocos Sur wherein 764 graduates received the fruit of their hard labor.
Ryan Jay C. Cuevas, a graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, topped the graduating batch as one among the three Magna Cum Laude graduates. He delivered the valediction wherein he gave thanks to the people who helped him finish his course. He emphasized the virtue of passion and determination in the attainment of one’s goal. He noted that poverty is not a hindrance for a passionate person in the reaching of his dreams and aspiration.
This year’s commencement exercises was graced by Commissioner Lilian De Las Llagas of the Commission on Higher Education and the Chairperson of the NLPSC Board of Trustees as the guest of honor and commencement speaker. Commissioner De Las Llagas is an alumna of the University of the Philippines, graduated B.S. Hygiene in 1973. She completed her Masters degree in Tropical Medicine from Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand, and her Ph.D. in Biology (Medical Entomology) from Universiti Sains Malaysia, Malaysia.
Commissioner De Las Llagas indicated that in today’s generation, employers are looking for creative and multi-talented applicants. She encouraged the graduates to find for their brand that is marketable not just in the Philippines but internationally. She also advised the graduates to be open for learning and be tenacious for changes and progress.
A plaque of appreciation was awarded to Commissioner De Las Llagas being the Guest of Honor and Commencement Speaker given by Dr. Elizabeth M. Gacusana along with the top management officials of the College. Dr. Cherrie Melanie Ancheta-Diego, CHED Regional Director RO1, Mrs. Marichu Y. Cuison, Acting Director II of the Civil Service Commission FO Bantay, Ilocos Sur, and Hon. Ericson G. Singson, City Mayor of Candon, also graced the event.
The commencement exercises was concluded with the singing of the NLPSC hymn followed by the recessional.
