The Coordinator for Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) of the North Luzon Philippines State College, Dr. Ryan Victor Abaya, in cooperation with the Bureau of Fire Protection – Candon initiated the Earthquake and Fire Drill on June 21, 2019 which was actively participated by the faculty, staff, and students of the College.

Abaya, BFP Officers Conduct Earthquake and Fire Drill

earthquakedrill june2019 2The Coordinator for Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) of the North Luzon Philippines State College, Dr. Ryan Victor Abaya, in cooperation with the Bureau of Fire Protection – Candon initiated the Earthquake and Fire Drill on June 21, 2019 which was actively participated by the faculty, staff, and students of the College.

The said drill, according to Dr. Abaya, was conducted to prepare the whole NLPSC family and to equip them with necessary skills which they can use during calamities and in the strike of the “big one”. In addition, the BFP officers emphasized that the ones who are ready and prepared are most likely to be saved from disasters. They also advised them to secure first themselves and take action when everything is under control before rescuing other people.

Dr. Manuel D. Cadacio, the College Physician, also pointed out that conducting earthquake and fire drills is a serious matter and that this is in need of a serious action. He reminded everybody to determinedly and seriously participate in these kinds of drills in order for them to be trained and be armed with vital skills not only to save themselves but also to save other peoples’ lives.

On the other hand, the BFP officers also showed on how to operate the fire extinguisher, and later on executed by the personnel through a hands-on experience, led by the College President, Dr. Elizabeth M. Gacusana.

The College continues to seek linkages and partnerships with other agencies to acquire knowledge and skills needed in the conduct of precautionary measures such as the earthquake and fire drills to take preventative, anticipatory actions in order to be safe in the occurrence of natural disasters.
