NLPSC conducts CPR Training
The North Luzon Philippines State College in cooperation with the Southern Ilocos Sur Medical Society (SISMS) conducted the “Learn CPR and Save a Life”, a training of hands-only CPR for lay persons held at the NLPSC Gymnasium on May 10, 2018. The training aims to educate the NLPSC faculty and staff including the students to perform hands-only CPR.
Dr. Jonathan Pacquing of the SISMS lectured and demonstrated on hands-only CPR. The hands-only CPR consists of three steps namely: CHECK, CALL and COMPRESS. Mr. Bong De Leon, owner and manager of AED Distribution Company, gave a quick demonstration on using AED. An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a portable device that checks the heart rhythm and can send an electric shock to the heart to try to restore a normal rhythm. He emphasized that using AED to revive a cardiac arrested patient has 11 times percentage of success.
After the lectures, each of the participants performed the hands-only CPR on the mannequins provided by the SIMS. Participants who successfully performed the hands-only CPR were given a certificate and t-shirt.
